Kyobashi Armchair is designed for the cafe located at the open-ceiling entrance hall of the museum. Since the entrance hall is basically the face of the museum, Mr. Yoneya aimed to design a chair that is elegant but would not stand out too much even if a hundred of the chairs are lined up together. The most difficult challenge is how to design the backrest comfortable. The designer said, "When you take a glance at the chair, you will notice that it is simple, calm, and has a plenty of sitting space. The seat allows you to sit for a long period of time without getting tired."

This chair is originated from a chair for the office rooms, exhibition rooms, and hall ways of the museum. It is very simple like a stage crew working behind the scenes. In order to keep a sufficient strength, the structure was elaborated. The design of the armchair was born from the idea of the designer: What if I sit sideways? The backrest design of this side chair is drawn from the design concept of the armchair. It' s simple, minimal, but well thought out.
