Concrete parts in touch with the ground - energy piles
Concrete components cannot be used only as supporting or architectural element. Concrete can be used for heat storage and as heat conductor. Especially in Austria and Germany, concrete components in touch with the ground were used for functional and economic heating and cooling systems in the recent years. This comes from using piles for heating purposes. In principle, however each concrete surface in touch with the ground can be prepared accordingly. The heat exchangers can be mounted when constructing the building itself. It is not possible to modify already existing concrete surfaces.
The extra costs for using the components in question as heat sources are relatively low. The economic advantage results above all from it that only such components, which must be erected for static reasons anyway, are used. As a result there is no need for additional drilling or pipelaying work, such as for horizontal earth collectors or geothermal probes.
