Pillars are the vertical elements designed to receive vertical loads and distribute them to the foundations. They are usually square or rectangular, but can also come in other polygonal or circular shapes depending on the mould used to manufacture them. The pillars carry the beams that support the slabs, which transmit loads that affect the whole area of influence of the pillar. The area of their cross-section is based mainly on the bulging load and bending moment the pillar has to withstand. They are manufactured with HA-50 concrete and B-500-S steel, although other types of concrete and steel can be used if the plans require it.
