Description

What is Passive Purple and where to apply?
  • Passive Purple is a water-based liquid airtight vapour control membrane applied to the warm side of insulation on floors, walls, roofs and joists to create a continuous vapour control and airtight layer.
  • It can be applied to either face of the external envelope when installed on the warm side of the insulation.
  • Surface preparation: substrates must be solid, dust-free and closed. All holes and joints must be sealed prior to application:
    • Large holes and joints (>5 mm): seal with fast-setting cement-based products or polyurethane foam.
    • Small holes and joints (2–5 mm): seal using Passive Purple Brush (brush-applied product).
  • Application methods: airless spray for high productivity, brush-applied (Passive Purple Brush) or roller-applied versions for small projects or where airless equipment is unavailable.
  • Productivity: a single installer can apply up to 300 m² per day with an airless sprayer.
  • Ensure airtight connections at wall-to-ceiling junctions and between different materials to avoid air leaks, energy loss and risk of damp or mould.

Key certifications and performance
  • BBA certified liquid airtight vapour control layer and certified Passivhaus component.
  • Provides radon barrier performance to reduce radon entry into buildings.
  • M1 class, VOC-free, water-based formulation for low emissions.
  • Fire rating: Fire Class C.
  • Excellent airtightness performance: product test data shows results down to 0.03 ACH and is suitable to achieve 0.6 ACH or better at building level when used correctly.

Compatible substrates and typical uses
  • Adheres to common building substrates including concrete, brick and wood.
  • Ideal for floor-to-wall and wall-to-ceiling connections, vertical and horizontal joints and junctions between materials.
  • Also used as a radon protection layer in foundations and lower envelopes.

Technical specifications
  • Application methods: airless spray (high productivity), brush-applied Passive Purple Brush, roller-applied option.
  • Coverage (spray): up to 300 m² per installer per day, dependent on substrate and site conditions.
  • Certifications: BBA certified; Passivhaus certified component; material data available for hygrothermal design tools.
  • Emissions: M1 class, VOC-free, water-based formulation.
  • Fire rating: Class C.
  • Airtightness: certified low air-change rates (example test result: 0.03 ACH); capable of supporting building-level 0.6 ACH or lower when integrated correctly.
  • Suitable substrates: concrete, brick, wood and typical building materials; designed for warm-side installation.
  • Surface preparation: solid, dust-free, closed surfaces; large gaps >5 mm sealed with cement-based or PU foam; 2–5 mm gaps sealed with Passive Purple Brush.
  • Radon protection: referenced and used as radon barrier in product documentation and certifications.
