Product overview
ZincTape® is a high-purity zinc tape (>99.95% zinc) with a nominal thickness of 0.08 mm. It is supplied with an electro-conductive pressure-sensitive adhesive (thickness range 0.025–0.40 mm) covered by siliconised release paper to protect the adhesive until application. The adhesive formulation contains zinc powder to ensure electrical conductivity and galvanic coupling between the substrate and the zinc layer.

Technical description
ZincTape® is designed to protect iron, steel, aluminium and light-metal alloys from corrosion by creating a laminar zinc coating applied under pressure. The electro-conductive adhesive establishes electrical contact between the substrate and the zinc layer so the tape behaves as a sacrificial (galvanic) anode in the presence of an electrolyte. The manufacturing process and high zinc purity produce a homogeneous, isotropic microstructure that reduces localised pitting and corrosive attack.

Cathodic protection
The product provides both passive and active protection:

• Passive barrier due to the homogeneous, isotropic zinc film and the adhesive that prevents underfilm infiltration
• Active cathodic protection because the zinc layer, electrically coupled to the substrate, acts as the sacrificial anode, reducing the potential difference between joined metals

For best results, ZincTape® should be applied to the nobler metal. If electrolytic potentials are uncertain, cover both mating surfaces to eliminate galvanic cells.
