Description

Product overview Zincofix® is a high-purity zinc tape (> 99.95% Zn) with a nominal thickness of 0.08 mm and a 0.025 mm electro-conductive pressure-activated adhesive. The adhesive is protected by a siliconised release liner until application. The tape is designed for laminar zinc coating applications to provide cathodic (sacrificial) protection of metal surfaces.

Available forms
  • Custom shapes according to client specifications
  • Rolls: widths from 10 to 700 mm, standard length 50 m
  • Thickness range: 0.08 mm up to 0.45 mm

Technical description The adhesive layer contains zinc powder and specific additives that make it electro-conductive. When pressed onto iron, steel, aluminium or light alloys, Zincofix® establishes electrical coupling between the substrate and the zinc layer so the zinc acts as a galvanic sacrificial anode, limiting corrosion in presence of an electrolyte.

Manufacturing and performance The high purity of the zinc and the manufacturing process produce a homogeneous, isotropic microstructure that resists pitting and localised corrosion. Properly applied, the zinc coating provides long-term cathodic protection often matching or exceeding the lifetime of the protected structure.

Features
  • Immediate barrier against direct corrosion
  • Active electrochemical protection via electrical contact—zinc functions as a sacrificial anode in electrolytic conditions
  • Adhesive layer bonded to the substrate adds an additional physical barrier

Coupling steel – light alloy Contact zones between light alloys and ferrous materials are prone to galvanic issues. Zincofix® reduces potential differences and can protect the nobler metal by acting as the sacrificial anode. If electrolytic potentials are uncertain, covering both mating surfaces is recommended to prevent galvanic attack.

Application fields
  • Automotive: protection of window apertures, chassis, roof seams, hinges, door edges and other leak-prone or detail areas. Custom-cut shapes are available for targeted protection.
