The hand-moulded facing brick with blue nuances
Ferro is a hand-moulded facing brick of Nelissen Brickworks. Ferro is made from Löss from Limburg, extracted from the plateau of Kesselt in the Meuse valley. Then the stone is upgraded with raw materials from the Volcanic Eifel. Nelissen Brickworks has obtained the colour of the black brick by the homogeneous mixture of manganese dioxide and Löss loam. The colour of the Ferro varies from mainly anthracite to coal black with blue nuances.
The non-perforated brick from the Obscuro range is covered with sand at five sides and provided with an oblong sloping groove on one flat side. The structure of the Ferro is characterized by a rough appearance with fine and irregular grooves in the sandy surface. The baking process is done in a gas-fired tunnel kiln under a slightly reducing atmosphere.
