OverviewPilkington Pyrostop® is a clear, multi-laminated insulating fire-resistant safety glass designed for architectural applications where transparency and thermal insulation under fire conditions are required. It combines high light transmission with proven integrity and insulation performance for extended exposure to fire up to EI 180 when installed in a tested glazing system.
How it worksMultiple glass plies are bonded with specialised transparent intumescent interlayers. In case of fire the external lite may crack, the first interlayer expands and becomes opaque to form a rigid barrier that blocks flames, smoke and the transfer of conductive and radiant heat. The mechanism progresses through successive layers, maintaining overall unit integrity and limiting heat transmission for the classified duration.
Features & Benefits- Tested with a wide range of framing materials and glazing systems, including steel, aluminium and timber.
- Integrity and insulation performance up to EI 180 in suitable, tested installations, restricting spread of flames, smoke and hot gases.
- Clear intumescent interlayers that foam to create an opaque barrier, supporting safe evacuation by preserving visibility control during fire events.
- High light transmission for thicker options when combined with Pilkington Optiwhite™ low-iron glass.
- Totally clear vision for architectural transparency and design continuity.
- Impact safety and effective acoustic attenuation.
- Flexible product formats: monolithic or insulating glass units to suit internal and external applications.
- Can be combined with thermal insulation, solar control, self-cleaning surfaces, integrated alarms and internal blinds for tailored performance.
ApplicationsPilkington Pyrostop® is suited to internal and external use where thermal insulation during fire is required, including transparent fire walls, windows (special applications), doors, screens, partitions, façades and horizontal or inclined glazing such as roofs and skylights. It is compatible with monolithic installations and insulating glass units in tested framing systems.
Product CombinationsThe glass can be specified with additional functionalities: improved thermal insulation for energy efficiency, solar control coatings, enhanced acoustic performance, self-cleaning surfaces, safety and protection options, integrated alarm interfaces and privacy solutions such as internal blinds. These combinations increase design flexibility for architectural projects.
