Description

The 145th Street Bridge is one of several bridges that carry local traffic between Manhattan and the Bronx. To accelerate the schedule, prefabricated bridge elements were specified for the project. The first three spans on the Bronx approach to the bridge are prefabricated bridge units; the main span truss was pre-assembled in Albany, NY and barged to the site in one piece and two spans on the Manhattan end of the bridge utilized Effideck™ precast decking units. The three spans on the Bronx approach to the bridge consist of eighteen prefabricated bridge units. The three spans were installed in two days. The sidewalk units were joined to the roadway units with a cast-in-place curb. The railing anchorages were cast into the precast decks at the plant.
