Barrel vaulted or curved glass rooflights, skylights and atriums are slightly more costly than flat glass panelled designs. Curved barrel vaulted glass rooflights are however an excellent way of introducing natural light through a roof opening, whilst producing a second line of symmetry along the rooflight/atriums length. Due to the nature of a curved glass prism, the glass thickness utilised will also slightly refract the light into the mid point of the barrel vaulted glass rooflight, skylight or atrium opening. Smaller span barrel vault applications where the glass can span across the opening in just 1 No. glass unit may have no intermediate ridge lines and sometimes no intermediate rafters.
Glass gabled ends may be introduced within the barrel vaulted rooflights/atriums design. However shallower pitch applications will require the end upstand detail to be curved to following to barrel vaulted rooflights design.

Budget permitting, curved glass barrel vaulted rooflights/atriums provide many aesthetical benefits. However should budget be a primary consideration on a much larger glass barrel vaulted application, a bespoke flat glass faceting design may also be considered.
