Overview
Merten electronics with PlusLink inside. The Merten electronics range includes inserts and modules for lighting and blind control, dimmers, switching inserts, sensors and other PlusLink functions. DALI – one controller for everything
A DALI switch enables operation of single luminaires or combined lighting groups and allows switching between predefined lighting scenes. With suitable inserts, dimming and additional comfort functions are also possible.

What is DALI?
DALI stands for Digital Addressable Lighting Interface, an interoperable standard for lighting control. Control and operating devices from different manufacturers can be combined and centrally operated via a DALI system. DALI systems are used in commercial and industrial environments and, with appropriate design, can also be applied in residential buildings.

DALI – from push-button to dimmer to sensor
DALI allows control of single luminaires or entire lighting groups. By grouping and setting different brightness levels, atmospheric lighting scenes can be created. Some models support tunable white, enabling adjustment of both brightness and colour temperature.

Increased safety with staircase lights and motion detectors
For stairway areas, Merten ARGUS sensor modules provide a staircase lighting function. These modules detect moving heat sources within an adjustable detection zone and switch the light on automatically; after an adjustable time delay the light switches off again.

Energy efficiency with light sensor and brightness threshold
ARGUS sensor modules include a light sensor with an adjustable brightness threshold so that lighting only responds when the ambient brightness falls below the set value, preventing unnecessary energy use.

How does a DALI system work?
A typical DALI system consists of:

• DALI switch, push-button, dimmer or sensor
• DALI control insert
• electronic ballast (EVG)
• DALI-compatible luminaires

Each system can control up to 64 electronic ballasts; up to 16 groupings are possible. Bidirectional communication also allows feedback from luminaires to controllers.

DALI switches – wired bus, not radio
DALI operates over a wired bus connection, not wireless. The bus line transmits control commands and feedback between switches, sensors and luminaires; in many cases extensions or adaptations can be made later without rewiring.
