Product overview Phoenix is a factory-manufactured Portland-fly ash cement with reduced embodied CO2. It is suitable for ready-mixed concrete, precast concrete, concrete products, mortar, grout, render and screed. Phoenix reduces the risk of early-age cracking in large concrete pours, improves surface finish and offers enhanced durability against sulfate attack, chloride ingress and aggressive ground conditions. Phoenix is available in bulk tankers throughout Great Britain.
Applications- Ready-mixed concrete
- Precast concrete
- Concrete products
- Mortar
- Grout
- Render
- Screed
- Grout (specialist applications)
- Geotechnical applications
- Engineered solutions
- Marine applications
- Piling

Benefits- Lower embodied CO2 compared with conventional Portland cement.
- Reduces risk of early-age cracking in large pours.
- Improves surface finish of concrete.
- Enhanced durability: improved resistance to sulfate attack, chloride ingress and alkali-silica reaction; suitable for aggressive ground conditions.
- Slower setting times which can be advantageous for certain placing regimes.
- Reduced water demand leading to improved placing and finishing.
- Improved pumpability and performance for pumped concrete.
- Factory-produced blend removes need for on-site mixing of Portland cement with supplementary cementitious materials.
- Quality assured, UKCA marked product.
- Potential for higher long-term strength (gain after 28 days).
User guidance Concrete, mortars and grouts containing Phoenix (Portland-fly ash cement) must be specified and used correctly for best performance. Cement content must be appropriate and the water:cement ratio should be as low as possible while allowing satisfactory placing, compaction and effective curing. Trial mixes are recommended to determine the cement content required for a given 28-day cube strength and slump. Phoenix is manufactured from natural materials and slight shade variations may occur between manufacturing centres.
Technical specifications- Type: Portland-fly ash blended cement (factory-manufactured).
- Performance vs bulk Portland cement: slower early strength development; potentially higher long-term strength at equivalent cement content.
- Setting behaviour: slower setting times compared with some Portland cements.
- Workability: reduced water demand; improved placing and finishing; improved pumpability.
- Durability: enhanced resistance to sulfate attack, alkali-silica reaction, chloride ingress and aggressive ground conditions.
- Environmental: lower embodied CO2 than conventional Portland cement.
- Formulation advantage: factory blend eliminates the need for on-site blending of Portland cement with supplementary cementitious materials.
- Availability: supplied in bulk tankers throughout Great Britain.
- Recommendation: determine cement content and mix design from trial mixes to achieve required 28-day strength and slump.
- Appearance: darker colour; shade may vary slightly by manufacturing centre.
