SummarySolar control glass combining high visible light transmission with a neutral appearance.
Marketing descriptionInsulating glass units* with COOL-LITE® SKN 183 or SKN 183 II deliver the highest visible transmittance (75%) for a high-performance solar control glass with moderate solar heat gain (g = 0.40).
* Composition 6-16-4 with coating on face 2.
These products are part of the "les engagés" range, which groups solutions with strong performance for environmental impact, health and wellbeing. Each product excels in at least one of Saint-Gobain's four sustainable construction pillars: energy & carbon, resource & circularity, and installer and user health & wellbeing.
Key features and benefits- Energy savings
- Reduces lighting and cooling demand: selectivity > 1.7
- Reduces heating losses (Ug = 1.0 W/m²·K for double glazing)
- Thermal comfort: limits summer overheating risk and avoids cold-surface sensation in winter
- Visual comfort: very high contribution of natural light for a given solar protection level with good outward views
ApplicationsGiven their characteristics, COOL-LITE® SKN 183 and SKN 183 II are suitable for new-build or retrofit commercial projects where very high natural light is required while maintaining satisfactory thermal comfort. Examples:
- Schools, universities or vocational training centers (improves learning conditions)
- Hospitals, care homes, nursing homes (improves patient or resident wellbeing)
- Façades with limited glazing area where maximizing natural light while avoiding summer overheating is required
- Inner leaf of double-skin façades where visible transmittance can be reduced by the number of glazing panes
AdvantagesInsulating glass units with COOL-LITE® SKN 183 or SKN 183 II combine the benefits of a high-performance coated glass:
- Very neutral, low-reflective appearance (external reflection ≈ 12%) providing high transparency
- Very high visible transmittance (TL ≈ 75%) for significant natural light intake
- Moderate solar protection (g ≈ 0.40) to limit cooling needs; compatible with blinds (e.g., integrated blinds) to enhance visual comfort
- Excellent thermal insulation in IGU (Ug ≈ 1.0 W/m²·K)
PerformanceThese glasses can be combined with ORAÉ® (low-carbon glass), PLANICLEAR® (clear) or DIAMANT® (extra-clear) substrates.

Additional options- STADIP® PROTECT: laminated safety glass to protect occupants and property
- STADIP® SILENCE: laminated option for acoustic reduction
- BIOCLEAN®: easy-clean option (available only in laminated; combination BIOCLEAN face 1 and COOL-LITE SKN face 4)
- Integrated blinds (e.g., integrated blind versions) for improved visual comfort
Environmental documentationEnvironmental and Health Declaration Sheets (FDES) are available in the product documentation.
Range and availability- Monolithic glass available in thicknesses 6, 8 or 10 mm
- Standard sizes up to 6000 x 3210 mm
- PLANICLEAR® substrate as standard; DIAMANT® available on confirmed order
- Other thicknesses or lengths (greater or lower than 6000 mm): consult the manufacturer/distributor
- Also available as laminated safety glass (e.g., laminated thicknesses 44.2 to 1010.2) and in STADIP® PROTECT or STADIP® SILENCE versions
Handling and processing instructionsCOOL-LITE® SKN 183 and SKN 183 II must always be assembled in an insulating glass unit with the coating placed on face 2. Edge deletion of the coating is mandatory for both products. To achieve its performance and appearance, COOL-LITE® SKN 183 II must always be tempered before IGU assembly. After processing, insulating glass units including an SKN 183 or SKN 183 II coating have a similar external appearance and can be installed side by side on the same façade.
