Description

Overview
The iC7-Aqua is a next-generation variable frequency drive (VFD) optimized for water and wastewater applications. It provides precise control of pump systems to optimize energy consumption, reduce mechanical stress, and improve reliability across municipal water distribution, wastewater treatment, desalination and industrial water purification. Your ambition. Our drive.

How a VFD works on a pump
A variable frequency drive controls pump speed to meet actual system demand instead of running at constant full speed. By matching pump speed to required flow or pressure, VFDs can:
  • Save significant energy: reducing pump speed by about 20% can yield energy savings up to ~50%
  • Reduce mechanical wear: soft start/stop reduces water hammer and mechanical stress on pipes, valves and pumps
  • Improve process control: maintain constant pressure, flow or water level with high precision

Supply voltage and power range
  • Standard drives: 3 x 380-480 V AC — 0.37–710 kW (0.5–1000 hp)
  • ULH (Ultra Low-Harmonic) drives: 380-480 V AC — 22–160 kW (30–250 hp)

Key features and benefits
  • Pump and application protection: dry run detection to protect pump when running without water
  • End-of-curve detection: prevents operation outside recommended pump range to protect against leakage
  • Pipe fill mode & check valve ramp: eliminates water hammer and pressure surges, reducing need for external soft-close valves
  • Condition monitoring: integrated protection and monitoring for motor stator winding, vibration and load envelope to provide early warnings
  • Flow compensation & sleep mode: intelligent operation during low/no demand to save energy
  • Multi-pump controller: manages multi-pump systems for optimal efficiency and uptime
  • Automatic Energy Optimization (AEO) & Automatic Motor Adaptation (AMA): improved part-load efficiency via advanced algorithms
  • Graphical control panel: large display with intuitive menus and setup assistants for easy commissioning
  • Easy installation: pluggable terminals and generous cable space
  • MyDrive® Insight: suite of engineering tools for monitoring, parameterization and troubleshooting
  • Embedded fieldbus options: supports EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP, EtherCAT and Modbus RTU for system integration
  • Integrated cybersecurity: hardware-based security (crypto chip) for encrypted end-to-end data transfer
  • Integrated functional safety (STO): meets SIL3 PLe safety levels with internal diagnostics

Ultra low-harmonic (ULH) variant — benefits
The iC7-Aqua ULH variant is designed for installations with sensitive power grids and strict harmonic limits. Benefits include:
  • THDi < 3% at full load (approx. 3–5% at partial load)
  • Power factor of 1.0 — may eliminate need for external power factor correction
  • Fully integrated compact single-unit design (3-wire in / 3-wire out) simplifying installation
  • High efficiency and smaller downstream system components (transformers, switchgear) due to clean power profile
  • Future-proof compliance with harmonic standards

Applications
  • Municipal water distribution and pumping stations
  • Wastewater treatment plants
  • Desalination and industrial water purification
  • Pumping skids and multi-pump systems
