Description

Overview
Ultibed Mortar 45 is an ultra-high performance rapid-setting bedding mortar formulated for highway and civil engineering use. It delivers a typical return-to-service time of 45 minutes after mixing and placement at ambient temperatures of 18–22°C, enabling fast reinstatement of traffic and reduced road closure durations. The product meets National Highways HD 27/15 requirements.

Typical uses / Applications
  • Bedding and laying setts
  • Installing kerb stones
  • Inspection chamber covers and frames
  • Gully grates
  • Manhole and inspection covers
  • Stanchion posts
  • Inspection frames
  • Other street furniture and similar highway installations

Key benefits
  • Very rapid setting: return to service (traffic) in approximately 45 minutes in ambient conditions (18–22°C)
  • High early and high final strength to reduce construction and road closure times
  • Excellent bond to stone, brick and concrete substrates without primer
  • Factory blended under BS EN ISO 9001 quality procedures
  • Easy to mix on site (mechanical mixer recommended) with good trowelable workability
  • Available in 25 kg water-resistant bags and tubs
  • Shrinkage resisting (shrinkage < 0.001%) with a smooth trowel finish
  • Suitable for planned maintenance and emergency repairs

Additional information
  • Workability: 5–10 minutes
  • Mixing: each 25 kg bag mixed with 2.5–3.0 litres of cool, clean water. Best practice is to pre-measure water and add powder to water, mixing for 2–3 minutes until homogeneous.
  • Recommended mixing equipment: forced-action high shear mixer or slow-speed drill with paddle. Hand mixing possible.
  • Yield (per 25 kg bag): approximately 12.2 litres
  • Density: 2250–2300 kg/m3

Compliance & product features
  • Complies with National Highways HD 27/15
  • Contains performance-enhancing additives and 3D fibre reinforcement; some variants include PLUS+ technology to improve performance and reduce environmental impact
  • Designed for compatibility with stone, brick and concrete substrates

Technical specifications
  • Water addition (per 25 kg): 2.5 to 3.0 litres
  • Workability: 5–10 minutes
  • Set time: <20 minutes (initial set)
  • Shrinkage: Less than 0.001%
  • Density: 2250–2300 kg/m3
  • Yield (per 25 kg): 12.2 litres
  • Strength data (laboratory testing at 20°C, WSR 0.12):
    • After 45 minutes: compressive strength 20.0 N/mm2; flexural strength 4.5 N/mm2
    • After 4 hours: compressive strength 25.0 N/mm2; flexural strength 6.5 N/mm2
    • After 1 day: compressive strength 45.0 N/mm2; flexural strength 7.5 N/mm2
    • After 7 days: compressive strength 60.0 N/mm2; flexural strength 8.0 N/mm2
    • After 28 days: compressive strength 75.0 N/mm2; flexural strength 8.5 N/mm2
