Description
The Academy's new exhibition, education and research facility boasts state-of-art environmentally sensitive building technology and the largest green roof in USA. The all surrounding steel / glass canopy measuring 4,800 sqm has an integrated photovoltaic system.
The piazza is covered by a partly open filigree skylight. Additional customised circular skylights are spread out over the green roof. The Bolla, a spherical fully glazed steel pipe dome construction has a diameter of 27 m.
A rain forest biosphere has been simulated on the inside and can be viewed by the public.
