The roof over Afrykarium-Oceanarium in Wroclaw is covered with a 4,000 m² Texlon® ETFE foil cushion system. This provides enough natural light and the right conditions for the micro-climate inside, allowing over 1000 plants can thrive naturally. A portion of the Texlon® ETFE roof is also moveable, allowing for ventilation and external airflow when necessary. The architecture of Afrykarium is a very modern, a three-story building, with five expositions around the lobby representing different African biotopes. The building is 160 meters long and 54 meter wide, with a roof spanning over 43 meters. This roof is unique, as the long spans do not include extra support pillars, allowing for better views within the oceanarium. The wooden structure is made of glued laminated timber, and is individual and specialized to this project, adding to the mimicked natural surroundings throughout.Vector Foiltec worked closely with the general contractor PB Inter-System SA and the Montask installation team to adhere the deadlines. The outstanding UV transparency of ETFE made it an easy choice when compared with alternative materials. This leads to an optimal environment and ideal habitat conditions.
