In the desirable Bangsar South vicinity, you will find KL Gateway, a vast and prominent development located at the entrance of Kuala Lumpur. At its centre sits the Central Piazza, where an iconic ring ties landscaped greens, a retail mall, leisure park and outdoor tropical gardens together – and all covered by a Texlon® ETFE atrium roof by Vector Foiltec. ETFE is the same cladding material used at the famous Water Cube swimming arena for the Beijing Olympics.Unique print pattern on the Texlon® ETFE canopyWhen you look up to the Texlon® ETFE roof you feel as though you are standing under a huge flower. The print pattern for the foil canopy is one of a kind. The unique patterning mimics the petal shape of a hibiscus flower – the national flower of Malaysia.Vector Foiltec’s scope of work for KL Gateway MallVector Foiltec provided a turn key project. We designed the steelwork, which is also unique as it spans 42 meters without using any trusses. The lightweight solution pushed design and engineering boundaries, having only a single beam solution for such a long span.The Texlon® ETFE system covers 1,600 m2 with 31 individual two-layer ETFE cushions.The decision to incorporate a Texlon® ETFE solution for the skylight, created an inspiring and memorable environment for the public. ETFE also provides acoustic comfort, which is important for interactive community spaces.
