The ‘AV Hill’ building at Manchester University is used by over 50 research groups from Faculties of Life Sciences and Medical & Human Sciences. 300 scientists conduct research predominately on immunology and neuroscience. The ‘biomedical corridor’ connects the Core Technology Facility, Michael Smith and Stopford Buildings was designed to achieve a BREEAM ‘very good’ and an EPC B rating. The core laboratory facilities, shared by all building users, are located at ground floor level. The ‘bridge links’ at third floor level are located directly beneath the Texlon® ETFE atrium, which incorporates the Vario variable shading technology. The building was named Archibald Vivian Hill, who won the 1922 Nobel Prize while he held the Chair in Physiology at the University.
