This modern development for the elderly incorporates a large Texlon® ETFE cladding system to the central courtyard. This Texlon® ETFE canopy system was designed to link together simple housing blocks and to create covered, connecting and light-filled atrium.This housing scheme integrates private balconies and common spaces within these atriums, and creates spaces of peaceful escape with natural ventilation. Printed with a unique pixel shading pattern, the sheltering canopy is self cleansing, resilient and does not degrade under ultra-violet light. Cool breezes are felt during the summer, while through the winter periods the Texlon® ETFE system protects the atria from snow and allows plants to grow.The savings in the internal cladding to the residential blocks more than paid for the roof and internal landscaping, proving the scheme to be a highly cost effective solution.
